Canada ICT Visa
The Canada ICT Visa Program or Intra-Company Transfer is one of the immigration pathways to Canada. This program is part of the international mobility program (IMP) of Canada, which provides you with a temporary work visa for Canada.
Transnational companies that have branches not only in Canada but also in other locations can send their skilled and high-ranking employees to Canada to transfer knowledge or skills. Companies must demonstrate that the transfer of these employees will benefit Canada.
To obtain a Canada ICT Visa, you need a job offer; however, there is no need for a LMIA permit.
This program can be considered under the category of Investment in Canada. Next, we will become more familiar with the costs involved in the Canada ICT Visa.

Requirements for Obtaining a Canada ICT Visa
Company
- If the company wants to establish a new office in Canada and wishes to hire specialized staff from outside Canada, it must provide a strong and realistic business plan. It should clearly explain the importance of its work.
- The destination company’s address must be specified. The only exception is for startups. In the Canada Startup Visa, they can register a different address until they buy or lease their workplace.
- If the company wishes to transfer employees at the managerial level, it is important to demonstrate the scale of its operations in such a way that the need for such a transfer becomes apparent.
- If the company wants to transfer its skilled workforce to Canada, it must show the importance of that individual’s role in the company’s business plan. Additionally, the origin company must confirm that the transferred individual will work under a Canadian manager.
- Finally, the company’s financial ability to start operations and pay employee salaries is essential.
Applicant
- Not all employees of the company are eligible for this program. Only three categories of employees, including skilled workers, senior managers, and executives, can apply for a Canada visa through the ICT visa program.
- The applicant for the ICT visa must apply for the same job title they held in their home country in Canada.
- Having one year of full-time work experience within the last three years is essential for obtaining the Canada ICT visa.
Importance of Financial Capacity in Obtaining the Canada ICT Visa
It must be shown to the Canadian government through valid documents that the individual is capable of meeting the minimum requirements for living and conducting business activities. Therefore, demonstrating sufficient financial capacity for both living and advancing business in Canada is necessary.
Demonstrating financial capacity for starting a business varies depending on the type of company. There are six ways to do this.
First method 
through a foreign currency account with a financial source
Second method through a bank letter from long-term accounts (a financial source may also be required)
Third method through providing a bank letter along with a three-month statement from short-term accounts
Fourth method through providing a bank letter along with one or two months of short-term account statements (a financial source is required)
Fifth method through official property valuation (this method is not reliable and secure)
Sixth method through a bank letter along with official property valuation (this method is not reliable and secure)
Financial Capacity Based on the Poverty Line in Canada
In the section on living expenses, for the Canadian government, the LICO table is the standard. This table sets the minimum income levels in cities with a population of at least 500,000. In other words, if your assets are below the LICO, you are considered below the poverty line in Canada. To obtain a short-term visa for Canada, including the ICT visa, you must show that you have enough funds in your bank account to cover living expenses in Canada for one year (twelve months) based on the LICO. For easier reference, we will provide a table showing the required amount of financial capacity based on the number of family members. It should be noted that the amount must be in the applicant’s account or a joint account with their spouse.

What Documents Are Required to Obtain the Canada ICT Visa?
- Documents proving that employees intending to work in the Canadian company are employed by the same international company.
- Documents containing a description of the applicant’s job duties in the home company. This document must specify the job title, job duties, job position, and the applicant’s role in the home company.
- A document similar to the second option showing the job duties, job title, work position, and job rank in the destination company in Canada.
- A payslip or contract to show that the applicant for the Canada ICT visa has been working full-time for at least one year in the same position they intend to hold in Canada, during the past three years. This work experience must be in one of the branches of the same Canadian company.
- If the job requires specialized knowledge or expertise, a document proving that the applicant possesses this knowledge must be provided.
- A descriptive document showing a clear and strong connection between the home company and the Canadian destination company is required.
- A strong and detailed business plan.
- An invitation letter from the Canadian company.
Steps to Apply for the Canada ICT Visa
If you have all the required documents and meet the conditions mentioned, you can follow the steps below to apply for the ICT visa.
Step One
In the first step, you must visit the official website of Immigration Canada.
Step two
Select the “Apply for work permit” option. You can enter the title in the search section and easily access it this way.
Step three
At this stage, you need to create an account and then answer the online application questions. Please note that in the section for types of work permits, you must select the Intra Company Transfer option.
Step four
At this stage, download the required forms available in the application, then fill them out. After completing them, print and sign them.
Step five
After completing the forms, you need to categorize them and then upload them in the designated sections for each one.
Step six
At this stage, you must pay the fingerprinting and application fees.
Step Seven
After successfully completing the above steps, you need to schedule a fingerprinting appointment at one of the Canadian embassies (outside of Iran) and attend the appointment at the designated time.
Step eight
In this final step before entering Canadian soil, after receiving your visa, you need to send your passport to one of the Canadian embassies for the visa to be stamped in it.
How to Extend the Canada ICT Visa?
The Canada ICT visa, or Intra-Company Transfer visa, is valid for one year. However, this visa is extendable.
To extend your visa, you must show that during your time in Canada, you have made efforts to carry out the activities outlined in the business plan and the submitted documents.
Additionally, the company must prove to the immigration authorities, through documentation, that:
1: The Canadian office has been successful in hiring employees.
2: The Canadian office still maintains a connection with the home office.
3: The Canadian office has been active in providing services and goods during the past year.
4: The Canadian office is the third branch of the official company. This means the company must have offices in countries other than Canada.
What Are the Costs of the Canada ICT Visa?
The costs for this program are similar to other temporary visas for Canada. In this program, an employer compliance fee must be paid for the job offer declaration. Below, for your convenience, the costs are presented in a table.

Can You Obtain Permanent Residency Through the Canada ICT Visa?
The Canada ICT visa is a temporary one-year visa. This visa will not automatically convert to permanent residency in Canada. However, if you have the Intra-Company Transfer visa, you can pursue another path to achieve permanent residency in Canada.
You must apply for permanent residency through one of the sub-programs of Canada’s Express Entry. Depending on your job title, you should choose one of the Express Entry programs. The most suitable one could be Canadian Experience because by obtaining one year of work experience in Canada, you have already met the requirement for this program.
To increase your chances of obtaining permanent residency in Canada through Canadian Experience, you should aim to increase your points.
One way to increase your points in this program is to gain more work experience. One year of work experience in Canada will earn you 35 points, while two years of work experience will earn you 46 points.
Another way is to improve your language skills. To obtain permanent residency and live in Canada, high proficiency in one of Canada’s two official languages (English and French) is essential. The higher your proficiency, the greater your chances of obtaining residency and enjoying a better life in Canada.
Canadian Experience is not your only path to obtaining permanent residency in Canada. The Federal Skilled Worker Program can also be one of your options, but it should be noted that currently, the chances of success through Canadian Experience are much higher than through the Federal Skilled Worker Program.
