The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is one of the three main Express Entry programs in Canada. This immigration program is designed for skilled and specialized workers.
Applicants for this program are ranked based on their age, language skills, and education level, and ultimately, permanent residency visas are granted to those with the highest scores. A minimum of 67 points out of 100 is required for this program.
The maximum score that can be obtained for foreign language skills in the Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program is 28 points. 24 points are awarded for the first language (English or French) and the remaining 4 points for the second language.
It is very important for an individual to be able to speak one or both of Canada’s official languages (English and French).
The first language level below CLB 7 does not earn points. A score of 6 in all IELTS General skills corresponds to CLB 7. The point distribution for different language levels is provided in the table at the end.
For the second language, if you score at CLB 5 or higher in all skills, you will earn all 4 points for the second language.
سطح زبان اول | امتیاز |
---|---|
CLB 9 یا بالاتر | 24 |
CLB 8 | 20 |
CLB 7 | 16 |
The maximum score that can be earned in this section is 25.
For education in the Federal Skilled Worker Program in Canada, only Canadian credentials are awarded points. If your degree is not Canadian, you must have it assessed for equivalency by one of the credential evaluation organizations. If you fail to do this, no points will be awarded. The points table based on education level is provided below for better understanding.

The maximum score that can be obtained in this section is 15.
To earn points in this category, the work experience must be full-time, meaning 30 hours per week for which the individual has received payment. Furthermore, the job must fall within the Canadian job classification system under one of the TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 categories.
A minimum of 12 months (1560 hours) of full-time work experience or the equivalent in part-time work is required. Six years or more of experience will earn the full score. A detailed scoring table is provided below.
Note: If you have worked less than 12 months or completed less than 1560 hours, it will not count as work experience. Therefore, working more than 30 hours per week will not be considered.
Note: Some specific occupations are excluded from counting as work experience if the work is done during study time in that field, as the work was done without specialization and the individual would not be considered a skilled worker.
Note: Work experience during studies counts as work experience in the Federal Skilled Worker Program if it was paid, continuous, and uninterrupted.

The maximum points that can be earned in the age section of the Federal Skilled Worker program in Canada is 12.
Individuals of any age can apply for the Federal Skilled Worker program, meaning there is no age restriction in this program. However, applicants will receive fewer points from this section as their age increases. The best age is between 18 and 35 years, which will earn the most points. Applicants under 18 or over 47 years old will not receive any points from this section. The table of points based on the applicant’s age is shown below.
Note: Age is calculated at the time of receiving the invitation. This means that if there is an increase in age during the processing of the application, it will not affect the points score.
The maximum score that can be earned in this section is 10.
Having a job offer is not mandatory, and it is possible to apply for the Federal Skilled Worker Program in Canada without it.
The job offer must be non-seasonal, full-time, at least one year, and accompanied by wages. Additionally, as in the work experience section, it should be listed in the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC) under the TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 groups. It is important to note that in most cases, the employer providing the job offer must have obtained an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) permit.
The maximum score that can be earned in this section is 10.
In this section, points can be earned through various factors that show the applicant’s adaptability to Canada. Factors such as previous education in Canada, family members living in Canada, spouse’s education and language skills, and other factors can help in gaining points for the Federal Skilled Worker program. This section also assigns points to the characteristics and abilities of the spouse.
The table below lists the factors that are eligible for points and the corresponding point values.
During the visa process through the Federal Skilled Worker Program in Canada, there is no need for paper copies, and all documents must be uploaded online into the system. All documents must be in one of Canada’s two official languages, English or French. If documents are translated, a certified translation and a copy of the original document must also be submitted.
The passport and recent photo of the primary applicant, spouse, and children, as well as the marriage certificate, divorce certificate, or spouse’s death certificate (if applicable) must be provided. If the primary applicant has children, the child’s birth certificate should also be provided.
If a family member of the applicant or their spouse is in Canada and has provided points for the application, documents proving their first-degree relationship should be submitted. Additionally, documents showing that the relative is a permanent resident and residing in Canada should also be included, along with the other required documents.
Educational documents, including transcripts and credential evaluation certificates, must be provided for both the primary applicant and their spouse.
Language documents approved by the Canadian immigration office are essential for the primary applicant. If the spouse’s language certificate is used to obtain points, the relevant documents should also be submitted.

You must prove your financial capacity (13,757 CAD per person). For each additional family member, an additional 3,700 CAD is required.
The document must be on the bank’s letterhead, and it should include the account number, account holder’s name, all debts, the average balance for the last six months, and the bank’s contact information.
The primary applicant and their accompanying family members must undergo Medical Exams. These exams are valid for one year and must be conducted by a doctor authorized by the Canadian immigration office. These exams ensure that individuals entering Canada do not have contagious diseases or illnesses that could place a heavy burden on the healthcare system.
A police clearance letter must be obtained for the primary applicant, spouse, and children over 18 years old. Additionally, this letter must be obtained from any countries where you have lived for more than six months.
This letter is valid for one month. If translated officially, its validity extends to six months.

For three different stages (application review, permanent residence issuance fee, and fingerprinting fee), the applicant must pay the following fees:
هزینه | بررسی پرونده | حق صدور اقامت دائم | انگشت نگاری |
---|---|---|---|
متقاضی | 950 دلار | 757 دلار | 85 |
همسر | 950 دلار | 757 دلار | * |
فرزند | 260 دلار | 260 دلار | * |
*The fingerprinting fee, along with that of a spouse and children, is $170.
The first step in the Federal Skilled Worker process for Canada is to create an Express Entry profile. To do this, you need to have language documents and their evaluation certificates to correctly enter the necessary information.
Then, you must create a personal profile through the GCkey system on the Canadian Immigration website. For this, you need to provide initial information related to your job classification (NOC), work experience, education, educational credential evaluation certificate, personal details, and financial capability.
Based on the information you enter, the CRS system will award you between 0 to 1200 points.
After completing the profile and calculating the score, your file will enter the pool. In the pool, all files with different conditions are present. Normally, a draw is conducted twice a month, and each time, those with the highest scores are selected and sent an invitation. Therefore, the selection process is not random but highly competitive. The lower your score, the longer you will have to wait for your turn.
It should be noted that if two individuals have the same score, priority will go to the one who created their profile earlier.
After receiving the invitation, you must upload the required documents and complete the requested information within 60 days. After that, you must pay the fee and finalize your application.
Within 24 hours of submitting your application, the immigration office will notify you of the receipt of your documents (AOR) and confirm the correctness of your application.
After receiving the document receipt, this stage begins, which usually lasts between 1 to 2 months. During this time, the immigration officer will begin reviewing your file, and finally, a biometric letter will be issued.
Note: If your documents are incomplete, the fee for processing the application and reviewing the documents will be refunded.
Note: According to Canadian regulations, individuals who need biometric data collection must go to a visa office in another country to complete the process.
The eligibility review stage begins after biometric data collection and usually lasts up to 5 months. The goal of this stage is to determine whether you qualify for the program.
During this stage, all your documents and information will be reviewed, and the immigration officer may ask you to submit additional documents.
Background check is the final stage before the final decision. It usually takes 1 to 2 months. In cases where there is a suspicious issue, this stage may take up to a year.
In this stage, your security, criminal record, and information sharing will be examined. These activities are carried out by the Security Intelligence Agency, Canada Border Services, and the Canadian Immigration Office.
After completing all the above stages successfully, you will receive the permanent residency confirmation (COPR). At this stage, after receiving the passport request message, you must send your passport to the nearest Canadian visa office.
Finally, you must arrive in Canada as soon as possible (at most by the expiry of your visa or medical examination).
